Slovakia belongs to the longest established birdwatching destinations in eastern Europe. This century has not seen many tours to this beautiful country. Thinking of the bird highlights we certainly have to start with woodpeckers and owls. All Europe´s woodpeckers have populations over 1000 pairs each. Tengmalm´s, Pygmy, Ural and Eagle Owl breed in hundreds of pairs each. The ever increasing population of Imperial Eagle offers great close-up views of this magnificent raptor. Saker, Black and Hazel Grouse, Wallcreeper, Lesser Grey Shrike, Common Rosefinch or Citrine Wagtail are just a few other highlights to mention.

The extensive Carpathian mountains offer a fascinating range of forest birds while the plains in the east have little known wetlands and dry areas with Bee-eaters. This tour combines the best examples of habitats ranging from peat bogs, mountain forests and hills to large flat areas with marshes, sand dunes, quarries and fields. Both hotels are set by large artificial lakes with rich littoral vegetation that provide a great habitat for many songbirds that we can enjoy seeing before breakfast each day. Our local guides have more than 20 years experience of accompanying groups and they help to run the itinerary in the best possible way.
